Exterior Building Elevation drawing (s) describe outer elements or outer finishes for exterior of building, showing vertical dimensions of floor-to-floor heights, mean roof heights, and ceiling plate heights. For residential, many building departments don’t require interior elevations, but do require exterior elevations. An exterior elevation in nature is an orthographic drawing or picture that shows one side of the exterior part of a building, orthographic meaning a projection of the floor plans exterior imagery, based on a 90-degree fold line.
Exterior Building Elevation drawing (s) can be drawn as either presentation drawings or working drawings. When drawn for working drawings provide information for the building team to describe roofing, sidings, openings, chimneys, land shape, and sometimes depth of footings (but not in this case – because we show those on the foundation plan).
These drawings are intended to help owner and lending institution realize basic concepts of project. Working drawing exterior elevation features describe a project as it is to be built or constructed.
Our Exterior Building Elevation drawing (s) utilize and describe each as front, back, right side, and left side to uncomplicate directions, as opposed to north, south, east, and west. Floor Plan drawing (s) and Exterior Building Elevation drawing (s) provide information contractor needs to determine surface areas. Once surface areas are known, exact quantities of materials can be determined.
